Spaniard's resilience shines as he overcomes riding accident injuries.

Paris St Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico has left the Virgen del Rocio hospital on Friday, marking a triumphant milestone in his journey to recovery after a harrowing riding accident left him with serious head injuries.

The accident occurred during an annual pilgrimage in Southern Spain on May 28, when the 29-year-old was struck by a mule cart and a horse.

The goalkeeper was placed in an induced coma to facilitate his healing process. On June 19, he emerged from the coma, and he was subsequently discharged from the intensive care unit on July 5.

The incident sent shockwaves through the football community, as Rico's colleagues and fans rallied around him during his arduous recovery.

A dedicated professional, Rico had been on the bench for PSG's clash with Strasbourg just a day before the accident.

The French Ligue 1 club had granted him permission to participate in the annual pilgrimage, a testament to the bond between the player and the team.

Rico's football journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Hailing from Sevilla, he gained experience during a loan spell with Fulham during the 2018/19 season.

His prowess between the goalposts caught the attention of PSG, who secured his services on loan for the 2019/20 campaign, later making the move permanent.

However, fate had other plans, and Rico found himself on loan to Mallorca for the 2021/22 season.

In a show of solidarity and support, Rico's PSG teammates paid heartfelt tribute to him during their final game of the previous season.

The entire squad donned jerseys bearing his name on the back, a touching gesture that highlighted the camaraderie within the team.
