Police play Vipers in the final of the 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Police FC will play in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final for the second time in their history when they take on Vipers on Saturday in Lira.

The Cops have not been very convincing for a finalist, especially considering that the only topflight side they faced was the holders BUL FC who have been relatively poor in the second round.

The 2002/3 finalists launched their campaign in Soroti City, where their captain Joseph Sentume grabbed for them the lone winner as they survived the pain of going through the shoot-outs.

Recently-crowned National Secondary Schools Football Boys’ champion and topscorer with St. Mary's Kitende, Abdul Nsereko, came to the rescue in Pader District where they pipped Pajule Lions 1-0.

They brushed aside fellow FUFA Big League side Ndejje University 2-0 at Kavumba in the round of 16.

Denis Kalanzi and veteran Herman Wasswa were the chief architects of the victory.

Their first main test arrived in the quarterfinals, where they were pitted against the defending winners BUL FC.

Anthony Mayanja had shaken the Cops' armoury with a quick goal inside the opening two minutes, but they retaliated.

The hosts forced Pascal Ngobi to concede an own goal before Ronald Sempala settled the game in the dying minutes.

If their form did not worry them, coach Angelo Lonyesi must have picked some valuable lessons from their semifinal encounter with Adjumani Town Council.

His team had to rely on a Hassan Kikoyo penalty to take a slim lead to West Nile for the second leg but found more reprieve when Samuel Kayondo’s first half-strike counted for the valuable goal in the away-goals rule after they drew 2-2 in aggregate.
