Jose Peseiro's future has been put in the hands of Nigerians as suggested by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.

Jose Peseiro’s future with the Super Eagles will be decided by public opinion according to the Nigerian Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau.

The Portuguese gaffer has spent a year as the national team handler and his contract is yet to be renewed.

His last outing as Super eagles boss qualified the three-time champions for the AFCON 2023 competition in Cote d’ Ivoire following a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone.

It is understood that the NFF are offering Peseiro a pay cut to remain coach of the Nigerian side.

Ex-internationals including Finidi George and Emanuel Amunike have reportedly been contacted as replacements if the Portuguese boss decides to walk away.

During an interview with the Gbam! loving Football Show NFF President Gusau said:

“We have that plan to push it to Nigerians and to hear their views [about the decision].

“We tried the foreign coaches and also the home-based coaches, and it seems all were having some kind of problems.

“But maybe we did not get it right in the area of getting the right person [for the role]. But we are surely going to push it to the public whether to continue with Peseiro or let him go.”

The Super Eagles will complete their AFCON 2023 qualifier against Sao Tome in September but another coach could be handling the team as Peseiro's contract will expire at the end of June.
