Olunga featured for the entire match although Al Duhail squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Al Arabi on Sunday.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga made his long-awaited return for Al Duhail in a league match against Al Arabi played on Sunday evening.

Olunga played the entire match and even though he did not find the back of the net, led the line dynamically.

He attempted two shots on target, gave one key pass, and successfully took his marker two times.

He was also imperious off the ball, winning four of his six ground duels and winning two of his three areal contests.

Olunga recently returned to the team early this month after two months out having suffered a leg injury during his club’s Asian Champions League match against Persepolis in December.

It is an injury that proved costly for his team who have not won a match since that fateful day on December 5, suffering six defeats while drawing one of the seven games in all competitions.

The Kenyan striker has scored 11 goals in 13 games for the Qatari Stars League defending champions this season.

Despite Olunga’s efforts, Al Duhail faced a setback as they squandered a 2-0 lead, even with a one-man advantage throughout the second half following Hassan Aldeen's first-half dismissal.

Ibrahim Diallo gave Duhail the lead in the 65th minute, and Almoez Ali doubled the advantage five minutes later. However, the hosts saw their lead slip away, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Ahmed Fatehi pulled one back for Al Arabi in the 84th minute, and the visitors secured an equalizer in the 89th minute through Omar Somah's penalty.

Looking ahead, Al Duhail is set to face Al-Gharafa in their upcoming match on Friday. Olunga's return and notable performance add anticipation for the team's future fixtures.
