The former Tusker forward was tipped to be the hot favorite for the award.

Al Duhail’s Kenyan striker, Michael Olunga has missed out on the Qatari Stars League Player of the Season for the second year in a row despite finishing as top scorer on each occasion.

Despite being tipped to be the hot favorite for the award, he has missed out on the gong to Al Arabi’s Tunisian forward, Yousef Msakni.

The former Gor Mahia striker has, however, won the Mansour Muftah Award given to the Top Scorer after notching 22 goals, having bagged four against Al Shamal on the final day to guarantee his club the league title and the Golden Boot award.

Olunga has been the main catalyst behind Al Duhail's treble win this season. His goals led the charges to the Ooredoo Cup, Qatar Cup, and the Qatar Stars League winner.

It was therefore widely expected that he would bag the coveted Best Player prize. He again lost the coveted title in the 2021-2022 season to Akram Afif but still got a consolation with the Golden Boot award after netting 24 goals.

Younes Ali (Al Arabi) beat Al Duhail Coach Hernan Crespo for the Best Coach award .
