A popular businessman and Oyo State Politician slams Sunday Oliseh after the former Dortmund midfielder's criticism of Adegboye Onigbinde.
Oyo State lawmaker Oloye Akin Alabi fired at Sunday Oliseh, stating that he was a worse Super Eagles coach than Adegboye ‘Festus’ Onigbinde. This came after Oliseh had initially named Onigbinde as the worst coach to ever manage the Super Eagles.
What Akin Alabi said
Alabi is a businessman and member of the House of Representatives. He represents the Egbeda Federal constituency, a post he has held since 2019.
Though famed for his grassroots politics, Alabi is a big personality on Twitter (now X) and regularly contributes to football conversations; he owns one of the popular sports betting companies in the country.
Quoting a tweet reporting that Oliseh tagged Onigbinde as the worst Super Eagles coach, Alabi swung in defence of the former Shooting Star’s coach, backing it with some of his positive records, while reminding the former Dortmund midfielder of his own failing.
“Sunday Oliseh is far worse than Baba Onigbinde,” Alabi tweeted. Baba at least went to AFCON and got to the finals of AFCON before losing to a Cameroonian team inspired by Theolhilus Abega and Roger Milla. Oliseh fumbled our AFCON qualifiers with that draw against Tanzania. Never again.”
Onigbinde led Nigeria to the final of the 1984 AFCON, which ended in a 3-1 defeat to Cameroon, before overseeing the Super Eagles' worst World Cup outing to date — the 2002 edition, where he failed to secure a win, crashing out of the group stage after losses to Argentina and Sweden and a draw against England.
