Since 1999, Lobi Stars have only ever won one league title; their best-ever campaign after that was in 2018 when they were in first place but lost the title when the NPFL was cancelled.

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Lobi Stars have assured their supporters that they would go into the Super 6 playoffs stronger than they were during the regular season.

Lobi Stars, by virtue of finishing in second place in Group B of the 2023 season, had qualified for the championship playoffs alongside Bendel Insurance, Remo Stars, Rivers United, Sunshine Stars and Enyimba.

Assurances ahead of NPFL Super 6

In an official statement released by the club ahead of the one-week event, the club said to its fanbase that the players were training hard to put smiles on their faces in June.

“We are not discouraged our aim and goal will be achieved we are working harder to put smiles on your faces,” Lobi Stars said in a statement on Tuesday.

“In the Super 6, we will come out more stronger and better cos it’s a new era for us we shall start with Glory and end in Glory. YES FATHER BOYS.”

Lobi Stars going for second-ever NPFL title

The Makurdi side are gunning for their first NPFL title since winning the league in 1999. Their best season ever since was the 2018 abandoned season when they were at the top of the league after 24 completed matchdays.

The playoff is slated to kick off on Saturday, June 3, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan, Lagos, with all six participating teams arriving two days earlier.

The playoff winner and as well as the second-placed team will compete in the next season's CAF Champions League while the third-place team will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.
