Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool: Full-time report
A late change to their starting XI following Florian Wirtz’s injury in the warm-up perhaps disrupted Liverpool’s momentum a little in the opening stages, and they struggled to create much.
The first real chance of the game fell Forest’s way, and the goal-bound free-kick from Murillo was blocked by a Liverpool shirt.
Forest went into the break feeling a little aggrieved, having dominated for most of the half, and they almost got their just rewards on the stroke of half-time when Elliot Anderson’s powerful drive flew just over the bar as Alisson desperately dove to keep it out.
The second half was equally a cagey affair, with no clear-cut chances for either side.
After Morgan Gibbs-White and Ibrahim Sangare squandered late opportunities to seize the lead, Nottingham Forest were nearly undone by a stroke of misfortune when an Ola Aina clearance deflected off Alexis Mac Allister and into the net.
Although that initial effort was disallowed after the ball struck the Argentine’s arm, Mac Allister refused to be denied. In the final seconds of the match, he appeared again to pounce on a rebound from close range, securing a dramatic winning goal.
This last-gasp victory provides a massive boost to Arne Slot’s side and their pursuit of a top-four finish, while simultaneously leaving Forest in a precarious position just above the relegation zone.
