Kenya pledges support for Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, fostering global football camaraderie and anticipation.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa has officially declared Kenya's unwavering support for Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

This endorsement comes in the wake of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation's (SAFF) announcement, wherein they expressed their ambition to deliver a "world-class tournament" for the 25th edition, drawing inspiration from the nation's deep-rooted passion for football.

Mwendwa, in extending his support, also took a moment to congratulate Morocco on securing the hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup, a tournament that will be jointly hosted by Spain and Portugal, with Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay hosting the opening matches to mark the tournament's centenary.

"It's Saudi 2034. You've got Kenya's support, you've got my support for President Yasser. Let's do this. Come to Kenya for AFCON 27, go to Morocco for World Cup 2030 and then to Saudi for the World Cup 2034!,” Mwendwa exclaimed in a tweet.

Mwendwa's support comes despite Saudi Arabia being a serial violator of human rights with hundreds of Kenyan domestic workers reported to have died in the Middle Eastern country in recent years.

The decision to award the 2034 World Cup to the Asia or Oceania region, as declared by FIFA, has been welcomed by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

He expressed his belief that this decision paves the way for a more equitable opportunity for all confederations to bid for and host the prestigious FIFA World Cup – the pinnacle of world men’s football.

"We strongly believe it paves the way for a more equitable opportunity for all confederations to bid for, and host, the prestigious FIFA World Cup - the pinnacle of world men’s football," Shaikh Salman remarked.

The forthcoming 2026 World Cup, set to feature 48 teams, will be hosted by a trio of North American nations – the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The prospect of witnessing a "world-class tournament" in the Middle East adds a layer of anticipation to the footballing calendar, marking a potential historic moment for Saudi Arabia and the entire region.
