The 22-year-old scored Lobi Stars first goal of the season, in their 1-0 victory over Rangers

Having only joined Lobi Stars this season and scored the club's first's goal, winger Joseph Atule has revealed that his ultimate ambition is to emerge as the highest goalscorer of the 2023 NPFL season.

Atule scored the only goal at the New Jos Stadium on Wednesday, as his 82nd-minute winner helped Lobi Stars defeat Rangers and earn them their first win of the season.

That victory sees Lobi Stars sit fifth in Group B of the 2023 season, behind Abia Warriors, Niger Tornadoes, Dakkada and defending champions Rivers United.

Atule aiming for NPFL golden boot

Speaking in an interview after the game, the Lobi Stars attacking winger revealed that he had one desire, one that he had every football league season.

"As a striker, I feel very very happy that I scored the goal that gave us our first victory in our first home match in the current season," Atule said in an interview with Daily Trust.

"I am hoping to build on that achievement to score more goals for Lobi Stars.

"What I do is that for every season, I challenge myself that if I am not going to emerge the highest goalscorer in the league, then I must be the highest goalscorer in my club.

"So, it is the same target that I have set for myself. I am not going to be selfish but anytime I have the opportunity to score, I will do my best to get the ball into the net.

"But my first ambition is to emerge the highest goalscorer in the league even as we are going to play fewer matches because the league is abridged."

Lobi Stars to face Abia Warriors on Sunday

The 22-year-old former Katsina United star has also played outside the shores of Nigeria for Cleopatra FC and El Makasa, both in Egypt.

Atule, alongside his teammates will journey to Umuahia where they will play Group B leaders Abia Warriors.
