The former Gor Mahia captain was axed from Engin Firat's final 23-man squad to Mauritius.

Azam FC midfielder Kenneth Muguna has revealed why he did not make Engin Firat’s final Harambee Stars squad for the Mauritius Four Nations Tournament this week.

Muguna had made Firat’s preliminary 30-man squad for the tournament but did not make the final 23-man list.

The creative midfieder came on as a substitute in Kenya's 2-1 loss to Iran in March as Engin Firat opted to start with Kenya Police's Duke Abuya. He flattered to deceive and make an impression during the time he was on the pitch, which left people speculating that mast have been the reason he was left out.

“I couldn’t make it to the National Team camp due to unavoidable circumstances, I had a conversation with the head coach and I am happy he understood the situation. Can't wait to represent the country again in our future assignments,” Muguna said on his Twitter page.

The former Gor Mahia captain was also not in Azam's matchday squad as his side lost 1-0 to Yanga in the Azam Sports Federation Cup final on Monday afternoon, courtesy of a goal from Kennedy Musonda in the 14th minute.

Muguna won the 2016 Kenya Premier League Player of the Year while playing for Western Stima before sealing a move to Gor Mahia. He had a brief stint in Albania playing for KF Tirana before returning to Gor and then moved to Azam in 2021.

The 27-year-old extended his contract at Azam by a year in January despite rumors swirling around he was set to depart after the expiry of his contract.

Concerns were also being raised as to why he was not playing regularly but he will have a chance to revive his career as he has been off-form.
