A domestic abuse charity has sought clarification from Manchester United following an interview by Sir Jim Ratcliffe which seemed to suggest Mason Greenwood could return to the club.

A women’s group has sought clarification from Manchester United over a potential return of striker Mason Greenwood to the club.

Women Aid, a domestic abuse charity, have contacted United seeking clarification on their position regarding Greenwood after British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to suggest that the forward could have a future at the club after his loan stint with Spanish side Getafe.

Ratcliffe, who bought a minority stake in United, said in an interview last week that the club will evaluate everything regarding Greenwood before deciding on his future after the former management decided to cast him aside after he was charged with sexual assault before the charges were dropped.

“Yes, absolutely. We will make a decision and we will justify it. He's a Manchester United footballer so we are in charge of football,” Ratcliffe told the BBC.

“It's quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that's been made. The process will be: understand the facts not the hype and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of values which is basically is he a good guy or not, and answer could he play sincerely for Manchester United well and would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it.”

Now, according to the Dailymail, Women Aid want United to clarify those sentiments as they find them ambiguous and fear it could open a route back to the club for Greenwood.

Greenwood was cleared of domestic abuse allegations made against him in the United's internal inquiry last summer after the case had been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.

The player was suspended in January 2022 when the allegations were made against him and did not feature for the club even after the charges were dropped before United decided his future lied way from the club.
