This reconciliation comes as a double-edged sword—while it strengthens Cameroon’s squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON), it leaves a gaping hole in Manchester United’s plans.

Manchester United are bracing for a significant setback as their summer signing, Andre Onana, is reportedly set to return to international duty with Cameroon.

This comes after resolving a previously contentious relationship with Cameroon's head coach, Rigobert Song.

According to Actu Foot Afrique, Onana will return to the Cameroon squad in September for the next international break

This reconciliation comes as a double-edged sword—while it strengthens Cameroon’s squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON), it leaves a gaping hole in Manchester United’s plans.

Because Erik Ten Hag will likely be without Onana throughout the African Cup of Nations finals to be played in Ivory Coast, between 13 January – 11 February.

Onana’s presence meanwhile, will significantly enhance Cameroon's chances in the tournament, especially after a turbulent period in which the keeper quit international football.

Man United’s £55m summer signing quit international football before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after a disagreement with the head coach.

The blame for the fallout between Onana and Song was pressed upon Samuel Eto'o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

It is reported he wanted to get rid of the keeper at all costs. His stance appears to have shifted, offering Onana a lifeline back into international football.

For Manchester United, this development could hardly have come at a worse time. With the transfer window rapidly closing United is in a race against time to sign a new keeper before the transfer deadline.

United have been linked to Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir as a potential backup, who could be the club’s fall back option during the AFCON.

To make matters worse, the club's third-choice keeper, Tom Heaton, is currently unavailable due to injury, while Dean Henderson has continuously been linked to a move away from the club.
