Mason Greenwood's future at Manchester United has been discussed by the club's chief operating officer after months of silence.

He said that once his criminal charges were dropped, the club conducted a deep and exhaustive internal investigation.

Greenwood has not played for the Red Devils since his arrest in January 2022 on allegations of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control.

His charges were later dismissed, and he is now awaiting word on his football future from Manchester United.

Chief Operating Officer Collette Roche of United has now spoken up about the six-month internal investigation.

Collette Roche update of Greenwoods future

Collette Roche recently granted an interview with The Athletic where he spoke about the future of Mason Greenwood.

Roche said in an interview with The Athletic as reported by Daily Mail, “We've done a really detailed and thorough internal investigation.

“We've asked as many people as we can about what happened and try to understand it beyond the original investigation done by the police.

“You'd expect us to engage with people who were relevant in terms of stakeholder groups.

“And now we just need to make the decision. That decision is firmly a decision that's on us.”

Despite the fact that the new season began last weekend, Manchester United is yet to formally announce their choice of the forward's participation.

The Red Devils have finally taken a step toward bringing Greenwood back, as Mail Sport revealed last week, after receiving final clearance from their women's squad, club sponsors, and fan organisations.

The team members feel that Greenwood deserves a second shot at Old Trafford and would welcome his return.

The Manchester United team will now enter a consultation phase, during which they will engage with the women's team, to approve the move.

Greenwood has been spotted doing personal training at Manchester United camp this summer.

It is also rumoured that the Red Devils are considering sending the forward on loan out of England in an effort to keep him as hidden as possible.
