Following Sunday's tie between Liverpool and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Jamie Carragher stated that the defence for the team is a huge problem.

Luis Diaz scored Liverpool’s first goal of the game after Mohamed Salah played a delightful pass into his path.

Axel Disasi, who was playing on his debut for Chelsea, scored the equaliser for the Blues, with the game ending 1-1 at full time.

After the game, Carragher condemned the Liverpool players for their defending and insisted that they need to strengthen their defence this summer.

Carragher picks position Liverpool need players

Carragher spoke to Sky Sports after the game against Chelsea and said Liverpool needs improvement in certain areas.

Carragher told Sky Sports as reported by Daily Mail, “Chelsea are a work in progress. New manager, new players. I think they've been the better team today, there's no doubt about that.

“The big worry for me with Liverpool is defensively. The last action sums it up as they had a corner and they nearly conceded a goal at the other end.

“Liverpool needs a holding midfielder. They need a real defender, an out-and-out defender who can play right across that back four.”

This summer, the team lost a number of players, including Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, Roberto Firmino, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Liverpool have also made some major signings in the transfer market with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister joining the club.

They are also set to complete the signing of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia after losing out on Moises Caicedo of Brighton according to reports.
