Police have now defended the reason behind why they are selling just 500 tickets for shocking prices.

Kenya Police FC have explained why they hiked their ticket prices for their Saturday clash against Gor Mahia at their home ground.

On Thursday morning, the club announced that it was selling 500 tickets for extemporaneous prices. A VVIP ticket will go for 3000 shillings, with VIP and terrace tickets going for 2000 and 1500 shillings respectively.

This sparked an uproar among angry fans who were questioning why they had opted to hike their prices in the manner they did.

In a statement written by the club CEO Chris Oguso and released on its social media pages, the club has now been forced to defend its reasoning behind the decision.

“The decision to broadcast from Police Sacco Stadium comes after careful consideration and collaboration with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF),” the statement read.

“Originally slated for Nyayo Stadium and Ulinzi Stadium, the committee of Kenya Police FC, in consultation with FKF, decided to host the match at Police Sacco Stadium.”

Both parties agreed that the match would take place at the club’s stadium due to the fact it ensures “a superior playing surface, significantly reducing the risk of injuries for the players”.

The club has also revealed that it has opted for a small crowd “in order to prioritize safety for both spectators and players.”

The Law Enforcers have also revealed the desire to allow for both broadcasting companies KBC and Azam to get the viewership they need from televising the match live.

“Due to the exclusivity of the live broadcast rights and airtime slots for both Azam and KBC we agree on playing  the match at our Stadium based on TV rights.

"Kenya Police FC is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for both fans and players during these live broadcasts. We look forward to an exciting series of matches at Police Sacco Stadium."
