Before enrolling in Bayer Munich’s development programme in 2009, Karim Adeyemi started his football career with TSV Forstenried. However, a contract dispute saw the adolescent leave the Bavarian giants two years later, leading to a move to SpVgg Unterhaching in 2012.

Despite the assumption of many supporters of Nigeria’s Super Eagles that Karim Adeyemi’s exclusion from Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for the imminent European Championship on home soil opened the door for the 22-year-old to represent the West African nation, the forward cannot switch nationality to the three-time African champions.
Adeyemi has featured in four competitive matches for Germany before turning 21 — three World Cup qualifiers and one UEFA Nations League match — even though those games have not been at the World Cup or Euros.
The possibility would have been open to the Dortmund star had his appearances for Germany stayed within three non-friendlies. For instance, if Adeyemi had not played any part against Hungary in June 2022, his last appearance for the National Eleven, a nationality switch could have been in the offing if the player wished to make the change.
