Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips rules out leaving the club this summer despite difficult debut season.

Despite a difficult first season at the club, Kalvin Phillips is not ready to call it quits and wants to continue his career at Manchester City.

The England international signed for the Cityzens last summer from Leeds, but injury among other factors limited him to only 12 Premier League appearances, and under 600 minutes of field time in all competitions this season.

This has led to talks linking him with an exit from the Premier League champions, but Phillips is reluctant and wants to prove himself.

What Kalvin Phillips said

The midfielder spoke to the BBC's Mike Minay about his Man City situation, revealing that he does not plan to give up after an underwhelming 12 months at the club.

He revealed that he has spoken to Nathan Ake and Jack Grealish, two players who can relate to his situation having also struggled in their first season under Guardiola, and he said he had assurances from them.

He expects understanding the Spaniard's demands to get easier and wants to fight to earn his place in the team next season.

“My intention is to stay. We’ve just won the Treble, so there is no reason for me to leave… I cannot give it 12 months & say I am not playing so I am going to leave. With many players at City, it can take quite a while to cement yourself into the team.”
