Collins 'Commander' Lumumba believes the current squad has the potential to make a mark in African football.

Kakamega Homeboyz devoted fan Collins 'Commander' Lumumba has expressed his unwavering belief that the team will shine in the upcoming 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.

Lumumba's optimism stems from their recent victory in the FKF Cup final, where Homeboyz triumphed over Tusker FC with a 1-0 scoreline, securing their ticket to the second-tier competition of African football.

Speaking to the press, Lumumba compared the current squad to the team that emerged victorious against Yanga in the Sportpesa Super Cup tournament four years ago, emphasising the team's potential to excel in the tournament.

"After defeating Yanga in the 2018 Sportpesa Super Cup, and seeing Yanga subsequently reach the final of the Confederation Cup this year, it is evident that our team has the capability to make waves in the African tournament," Lumumba confidently declared.

Reflecting on their past victory, he highlighted the progress made by Kakamega Homeboyz and emphasised the need for further strengthening the squad to enhance competitiveness at the continental level.

The momentous victory against Yanga occurred at Afraha Stadium under the guidance of Ugandan tactician Paul Nkata.

Kakamega Homeboyz convincingly won the knockout tournament with a 3-1 scoreline, marking a significant milestone for the team.

This victory was particularly noteworthy as Yanga, one of Tanzania's most successful clubs boasting an impressive 29 domestic league titles, had never previously faced an opponent from outside Kenyan borders.

As anticipation builds ahead of the tournament, Kakamega Homeboyz and their loyal supporters eagerly await the preliminary round draw, scheduled to take place in early August.

The draw, conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will determine their opponents as they embark on their Confederation Cup campaign.

The Kakamega Homeboyz faithful firmly believe that their team has what it takes to make a lasting impression in the competition.

With Lumumba leading the charge, their unwavering support and belief in the players could serve as a driving force for the team to surpass expectations.
