The Italy international is set to leave Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s London rivals and Premier League leaders, Arsenal.

All things being equal, Jorginho will play for Arsenal in the second half of the season. The Italian star is expected to leave Chelsea and join the Gunners in a deal worth £12m, including  £2m in add-ons.

Jorginho will sign a one-and-a-half-year deal, with his contract set to run until the summer of 2024. The Italy international is the latest player to leave Chelsea for Arsenal.

While it is rare for rival clubs to conduct deals, Arsenal and Chelsea have conducted multiple deals in the past.

With Jorginho set to become the latest player to join Arsenal from Chelsea, Pulse Sports take a look at how the previous players who left Chelsea to join Arsenal fared.

William Gallas

In 2006, William Gallas became the first player to leave Chelsea for Arsenal. The deal was a controversial one as it saw Ashely Cole move in the other direction, a year after The Blues had been fined for illegal tapping.

Gallas had quite a decent spell at the Emirates, making 142 appearances and scoring 17 goals. The former France international was captain for most of his time at Arsenal, but his most famous moment was when his mistake in a 2-2 draw against Birmingham cost Arsenal the title.

Lassana Diarra

Remember him. Yes, it is the same Lassana Diarra whose career trajectory is strange. Diarra left Stamford Bridge for the Emirates after joining Arsenal from Chelsea in 2007.

However, he had a short stint with the Gunners, leaving after just six months, with just 12 appearances in all competitions. Following his spell at Arsenal, Diarra joined Portsmouth before going on to play for Real Madrid. Strange right?

Petr Cech

Cech is the longest-serving Chelsea player to sign for Arsenal. The retired goalkeeper joined Arsenal in 2015 after spending 11 years and making 494 appearances at Chelsea.

Cech turned out to be the most successful of all the players who left Chelsea to sign for Arsenal. The ex-Czech international made 139 appearances for the Gunners, keeping 54 clean sheets in these games.

During his time at the club, he won the Community Shield twice and also the FA Cup.

David Luiz

Luiz joined Arsenal from Chelsea in 2019. The Brazilian star came at a time Arsenal were short in defence. However, Luiz’s time at the Emirates drew mixed reactions, with the former PSG star receiving criticism for his needless mistakes at the back.

Nonetheless, Luiz went on to make 74 appearances for the Gunners, scoring four goals and winning one FA Cup.

Willian

Before Jorginho, Willian was the last Chelsea player to join Arsenal. The Brazilian star joined Arsenal in the summer of 2020 but spent just one year at the club

Willian had an unproductive time at Arsenal, scoring just one goal and registering seven assists in 37 games.
