Despite being booed by his own supporters, Jordan Henderson said it was an "honour" to captain England against Australia.

The England international made a move in the summer from Liverpool to Saudi Premier League team Al-Ettifaq.

His move stirred a lot of controversies after being a vocal supporter of the LGBT+ community during his playing days at Liverpool.

On his return to Wembley, Henderson was booed by the England fans but he has responded by claiming he is happy to lead the team.

Henderson’s move to Ettifaq, a nation where LGBT+ individuals face discrimination and where homosexuality carries the death penalty under Saudi law has caused fans to boo him during the England game.

Henderson played on UK soil for the first time on Friday and Three Lions supporters were heard making it clear how they felt about the midfielder.

According to reports from the Mirror, Henderson, though, has maintained that he was overjoyed to have participated despite that negative response.

On Saturday morning, he uploaded several images from the game to his Instagram account with the caption, "Always an honour to represent my country, never take it for granted. Extra special to lead the team out at Wembley."

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate, the manager of England, argued he did not understand why his captain had drawn jeers from the crowd.

Southgate is perplexed as to why Henderson was being booed by the fans and has criticised them for their action.
