Boost for Barcelona as Germany coach fires warning to Ter Stegen
Germany's head coach Julian Nagelsmann might have helped Barcelona with his recent comment on Marc-André ter Stegen.
Manuel Neuer, the undisputed number one for almost 15 years, announced his international retirement after Euro 2024. Marc-Andre ter Stegen has since become the primary choice.

Timo Hildebrand: "Nubel should be number one."
Recent speculation suggested Manuel Neuer might be willing to return if needed, but Nagelsmann seems to prefer fresh blood as he rebuilds the team.
Timo Hildebrand, a Bundesliga champion with VfB Stuttgart in 2007 and capped seven times by Germany, has offered his opinion. In an interview with SPORT BILD, the former goalkeeper stated his belief that Alexander Nübel should be Germany's new starting goalkeeper.
"It's clearly a three-way battle: Alexander Nübel (Stuttgart), Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Oliver Baumann (Hoffenheim)," Timo Hildebrand told SPORT BILD. "We would certainly be talking about Ter Stegen as well, but I don't think that's the case at the moment.
He's currently injured, and we'll see how he performs upon his return. I've heard his position at Barcelona is under threat, and if you're not playing regularly, you can't be the starting goalkeeper for Germany. As for the other three, I think any of them could do very well.
They're experienced goalkeepers with plenty of matches under their belts. However, if I had to choose one, I'd go with Alex (Nübel). He's made significant progress in recent seasons and I think he has an edge over the other two. From my point of view, he should be the number one – the new Manuel Neuer."
Alexander Nübel is currently in his final season at VfB Stuttgart, set to return to Bayern Munich in 2026 after a two-year loan.
Neuer's contract with Bayern also expires in 2026, potentially paving the way for Nübel to take over as the Bavarian giants' first-choice keeper.
