Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola namedropped his favourite player in his squad.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that Portugal international midfielder Bernardo Silva is the favourite footballer in his squad. However, he criticised the 31-year-old for his performance against West Ham.
The Cityzens were dominant against the Hammers, winning 3–0 thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and Tijani Reijnders. However, in typical Pep fashion, despite the strong performance, he had some reservations.
What Guardiola said
After the game, he mentioned specifics in the match in which Bernardo Silva was found lacking, while admitting that the City captain was his favourite player.
“Oh my god, Bernardo is my weakness. He’s top. But today, Bernie?! He has to play better! Today I’m not happy with Bernie, and he’s my weakness, my favourite one. But today I’m not happy with him,” Pep said, per City_Xtra.
“He knows exactly what we need to play better, fluid. But he has a special sense to compete, sense of play – Bernie has incredible attributes to make a step up in good and bad moments. That is what defines…”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has brushed off the transfer rumours linking him with a move to Manchester City, stating emphatically that he was fully focused on his job at Stamford Bridge.
