The Sofapaka right-back was part of the Kenya side that reached the finals of the 2023 CECAFA Under-18 Championships and is hungry for much more.

Sofapaka's dynamic right-back, Baron Ochieng, has reflected on his journey through the ranks of Kenyan football, from his early days as a promising youth player to his aspirations of donning the national team colours at senior level.

As he basks in the glory of his recent international experiences, Ochieng's story is one of determination, resilience, and unwavering ambition.

March marked Ochieng's third time representing Kenya on the international stage, a testament to his growing stature within the footballing community.

Despite his youth, Ochieng has already etched his name in the annals of Kenyan football history, emerging as a standout performer at the 2023 CECAFA Under-18 tournament.

His stellar displays at right-back caught the attention of scouts from Spain's prestigious Nastic Soccer Academy, underscoring his immense potential and talent.

However, Ochieng's journey to international recognition traces back to his formative years, where he honed his skills and showcased his talent on the youth circuit.

Surprisingly, his debut on the international scene came earlier than many would expect, as he earned caps for the Kenya U17s side back in 2020 while still a student at Dagoretti High School.

Despite facing formidable opponents, such as Ethiopia and Uganda, Ochieng's experience at the CECAFA Under-18 tournament proved invaluable, laying the foundation for his future exploits.

Recalling his debut on the international stage in an interview with the club's media channels, Ochieng reminisces, "That was my best year because every player looks forward to playing for the national team. I was very happy because that was my dream."

Despite the disappointment of a crushing defeat against Uganda, Ochieng acknowledges the significance of the experience gained, affirming, "It was still a good experience."

Ochieng's journey continued to ascend as he earned his second call-up to the national team setup for the Junior Stars, culminating in a memorable run to the finals of the 2023 CECAFA Under-18 tournament held in Kisumu and Kakamega.

Reflecting on this milestone, Ochieng has expressed his astonishment at the opportunity to compete on home soil against international opposition.

"Last year, we played the CECAFA Under-18 tournament. It was an amazing tournament because we hosted it and the fans filled the stadium. We reached the finals," he recalls fondly.

Amidst his burgeoning success at the youth level, Ochieng's sights are firmly set on the ultimate goal: representing the senior side, Harambee Stars. With unwavering determination and a burning desire to make his mark on the international stage, Ochieng eagerly anticipates his maiden call-up to the senior team.

"I am looking forward to playing for the senior team. That has always been my dream. It is my wish to represent the country," he declares with conviction.
