Gor Mahia secured a late one-all draw against KCB, while Tusker and FC Talanta played to a goalless draw.

Defending champions Gor Mahia struck late with two minutes remaining in the game to secure a 1-1 draw at home against KCB FC in an FKF Premier League match played at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

K’Ogalo were winless in their last game after being held to a 1-1 draw by Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend, while KCB were in top form, securing a 2-0 victory in a midweek clash against Abana Abeingo.

Jonathan McKinstry’s men came out firing with their first effort on goal in the second minute, but Benson Omalla saw his shot from the edge of the box well-saved by Byne Omondi.

Another clear chance of the match went the way of Gor Mahia in the seventh minute, with Patrick Sibomana’s low cross from the left swept on target by Kelvin Okumu, but the bankers goalkeeper Omondi made an excellent finger-tip save.

KCB  then claimed the lead in the 17th minute, when Apollo Otieno found a pocket of space, turned and fired a powerful effort into the bottom left-hand corner.

Bernard Mwalala’s charges, despite holding the lead, struggled to find a rhythm to their passing and  Gor Mahia were able to put them under some pressure through a combination of their direct play and occasional set pieces.

Yet the hosts  were not able to call Bryne Omondi to significant action, with Erickson Mulu doing a great job in quelling the threat of Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala and ensuring his team went into the break 1-0 up.

The second half started very slowly but it was  Gor Mahia who got the first chance which they failed to utilize when Austin Odhiambo sent a beautiful shot straight to the arms of goalkeeper Omondi.

KCB nearly extended their lead in the 56th minute, but experienced full-back Godfrey Ochieng came to Gor Mahia's rescue, denying the on-rushing striker Stephen Etyang, who had the goalmouth at his mercy.

The Bankers continued to frustrate K’Ogalo, and Omondi did well to keep out Benson Omalla's stinging effort from distance in the 71st minute.

Lawrence Juma headed over at a corner for the home side, while  Alpha Onyango and Simiyu then saw efforts go wide of either post in quick succession as the home side turned up the tempo.

In the 88th minute, Ugandan international Rogers Mugisha registered his first goal of the season for Gor Mahia to deny KCB their third win of the season.

Next up for Gor Mahia is the Mashemeji Derby against rivals AFC Leopards next Saturday, while KCB will travel to Muhoroni to face Muhoroni Youth.

Talanta 0-0 Tusker

At Ruaraka Grounds,Tusker were the better side in the opening exchanges as they looked to break the deadlock and silence the FC Talanta  supporters.

David Odoyo, who recently inspired the Brewers to a 1-0 win over Muhoroni Youth, was tightly marked by Talanta’s experienced defender George Ouma.

The visitors took control of the game after the half-hour mark with Michael Jairo looking lively for Talanta.

However, Tusker were able to contain the forward who has been one of the best performers for the team this season.

The score was 0-0 at half-time between  at the interval following a tightly contested first-half which had few chances.

Tusker made a bright start to the second half, with Joseph Mwangi in the thick of the action after latching onto a long ball from Erick Kapaito and drawing a superb one-handed save out of James Omusinde  in a one-on-one situation on 50 minutes.

He then attempted to catch the goalkeeper off his line five minutes later with a lob that went wide of the goal.

Second half substitute Deogracious Ojok almost made an immediate impact following his introduction from the bench as he dragged a shot wide of the right post from range on 74 minutes after the ball was recycled from a corner.

Staphan Siwa looked to send a message to Talanta on 81 minutes when he produced a lovely turn and got off a shot from range that Omusinde  had to tip over the bar.

Neither side could find a winner as both teams threw men forward in attack in the closing stages and consequently the game ended in a goalless draw.

Bandari 0-1 Kakamega Homeboyz

Elsewhere at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa , hosts Bandari were beaten by Kakamega Homeboyz in another FKF Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

Bandari started the better of the two sides, coming close to opening the scoring through Umaru Kasumba, Sharissiri and Kinyajui in the first 30 minutes of the game.

However, the visitors started to wake up halfway through the first half, with the Dockers slowly losing composure.

Kakamega Homeboyz created their first real chance in front of goal a minute later when Davis Kasirye met a right-sided free-kick into the box, but he headed inches over from ten-yards out.

Bandari had the last say of the first half when Abdallah Hassan fired a low 20-yard free-kick narrowly wide of the target.

The half ended 0-0.

Homeboyz had the first decent chance of the second half in the 49th minute when Moses Mudavadi let fly with a powerful 30-yard shot, but  Ochuka produced an acrobatic save to turn his effort around the post.

The visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 63rd, when Brian Eshihanda headed in the opener from a clever earlier ball by Eston Omengo to make it 1-0.

Bandari had the attacking momentum in the closing phase of the match and Kasuba missed a chance to restore parity in the 88th minute but Homeboyz weathered the storm as they carried home maximum points.
