Lionel Messi has been ranked ahead of CR7 in a recent poll to determine the GOAT of sports.

Lionel Messi has been in the headlines since winning a record 8th Ballon d’Or.

The 36-year-old Argentine currently holds the most Ballon d’Ors in the history of football having led his national side to World Cup glory in December 2022.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have shared the stage for over 15 years, sealing their legacies as the greatest footballers of the 21st century.

Messi has enjoyed a bright start to life at Inter Miami, scoring 10 goals in seven games during the Leagues Cup.

While Ronaldo is enjoying one of his best goalscoring seasons in the latter stage of his career having scored over 40 goals in the 2023 calendar year for club and country.

Messi recently recorded another win over his Portuguese rival in a poll conducted by media outlet Pubity Sports.

 Pubity Sports recently put out a poll for fans to vote the  'Top 10 greatest Athletes' in the world with Messi and Ronaldo owning the top 2 spots.

Messi ultimately won the poll with more than 22.5% of votes in favour of the Argentina and Barcelona legend.

The rest of the top 10 is made up of Mohammed Ali, Michael Jordan, Virat Kohli, Usain Bolt, Mike Tyson, Lebron James, Serena Williams, Michael Phelps.

However, the likes of football greats like Diego Maradona and Pele miss out from the list entirely.

The debate over who is better between Messi and Ronaldo has raged on for decades and will certainly continue even when they retire.

However, the legendary duo have recently admitted their rivalry is over after a fierce competition that spanned for over 15 remarkable years.
