France international captain wins court case against Paris Saint-Germain.

Kylian Mbappe has scored a huge judicial victory, as a Paris labour court (Conseil de prud’hommes de Paris) has ruled that Paris Saint-Germain must pay the Real Madrid star €60 million in unpaid salary and contractual bonuses linked to the final months of his contract before he left for Spain in July 2024.

The court ruling

Both parties have been engaged in a drawn-out legal battle for many months. The case was resolved today, and the court found in favour of Mbappe.

According to The Athletic, the court found PSG failed to pay his wages for April, May and June 2024, plus an ethics bonus and a signing bonus outlined in his contract, and rejected the club’s argument that Mbappé had waived those rights.

The unpaid sums had already been recognised as owed by the French Professional Football League (LFP) in decisions from September and October 2024, and judges said PSG could not provide written evidence that Mbappé had agreed to forgo those payments.

“This ruling confirms that commitments entered into must be honoured. It restores a simple truth: even in the professional football industry, employment law applies to everyone,” Mbappe’s legal team said, per The Athletic.

Mbappe gets less than demanded

Mbappé had sought around €263 million in claims (including unpaid wages, bonuses, severance and indemnities), while PSG counter-sought €440 million in damages, including €180 million for the “loss of opportunity” from his free transfer, claims the court dismissed or did not award.

Despite the dispute, Mbappé is one of PSG's greatest ever players. He scored 256 goals in 308 appearances over seven seasons, winning six Ligue 1 titles among 15 major trophies.
