Former Chelsea star names Arteta's next club

Mikel Arteta is one of the top-rated coaches, and a former Arsenal star expects him to coach one of the biggest clubs sometime in the future.

French World Cup-winning midfielder Emmanuel Petit has speculated that Mikel Arteta will one day coach Arsenal, explaining that the Basque tactician had a direct connection to the club, which makes a reunion inevitable.

While Arteta never played for Barcelona, unlike Petit, who had an unsuccessful season in Catalunya, he graduated from the Blaugrana’s famed La Masia academy and played for the B team for multiple seasons before transferring to Paris Saint-Germain.

What Petit said

During a recent interview, the former Chelsea defender-cum-midfielder said that Arteta will likely coach Barcelona if he decides to leave Arsenal, as he finds it unlikely that the former Everton midfielder will coach another Premier League club.

"Mikel Arteta will one day manage Barcelona, I think eventually we'll see that," Petit said, per Goal. "The connections are strong. But I think it depends on how he wants to deal with his managerial career, in terms of having his mind set to be there forever, like a one-club man sort of thing.

"Does he really want to experience football in different countries? To be honest, if he is to leave Arsenal, I see him more likely to go abroad than to another Premier League club. So, obviously, I'd say Barca would be his favourite next move if he were to leave Arsenal."

Arteta could coach Barcelona very soon

Failure to land the Premier League title this campaign could see Arteta decide to leave Arsenal or the club deciding to go for another manager, as the Spaniard would have failed to win the title from an advantageous position thrice.

The Barcelona election is set for March, and should Joan Laporta fail to win, Hansi Flick could leave at the end of the season, as the new president could choose to go a different route. This could create a window of opportunity in which Arteta will be out of work, and Barcelona will need a new manager.
