Former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has admitted that he feels "powerless" after losing his spot in the Marseille first-team amidst rumours circulating that he could replace Declan Rice at West Ham in the summer.

Rice has strongly been linked with a move to Arsenal, with the club making him their number one target as they attempt to find long term replacements for ageing pair of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

In a press conference, as transcribed by L’Equipe, Guendouzi said: “I don’t demand anything at all. I have a contract (until 2025). I have always faced my responsibilities, both on and off the pitch. I have commitments, and I’ll keep to them until the end.”

“Obviously, it isn’t easy to be on the bench, I have always wanted to help the team and you feel powerless. But I can bring a lot to the team when I’m called upon. I will always give everything on the pitch.”

The France international admitted to having held discussions with sporting director Javier Ribalta.

“Yes, I had a discussion with him. It was a normal conversation like many players have with the sporting director or director of football. I have always been sincere, and someone who says things face-to-face. It is always with the objective of moving forward together, before prioritising my personal situation.”

West Ham manager David Moyes admitted for the first time this week that Rice was likely to leave his boyhood club at the end of the season.

So far, Rice, 24, has rejected all efforts to get him to sign an extension amid interest from virtually all of England's top clubs.

"We hope Dec stays," Moyes said, "We would love him to be a West Ham player but we are aware that might not be the case. That is one of the scenarios,” he added.

"Our plans are to have Dec here but we are also fully aware there is a good chance that we won't have him."

The midfielder's contract is set to expire in 2024, although the Hammers have an option to extend that by a further year.
