Finidi George has confirmed he has left NPFL champions Enyimba after taking over as the new Super Eagles coach.

Newly appointed Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has confirmed he has relinquished his role as Enyimba manager to fully commit himself to the bigger challenge of leading Nigeria's national team.

Finidi was recently named as the permanent successor to Jose Peseiro following the Super Eagles' run to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Nigerian international was in charge of reigning NPFL champions Enyimba when he was announced as the new man in charge of the Eagles, raising questions about his ability to juggle both roles.

However, in a candid address, the 52-year-old admitted trying to balance the two jobs would be an unwise decision given the workload and pressures involved.

"I don't think it is wise to continue with Enyimba, knowing the level of work needed for them to retain the league title, and at the same time, carry on with the strenuous job of running a quality Super Eagles team," Finidi stated per Afik-foot.

"I am not a superman. I can't be stressing myself trying to win the league again and then battling with the Eagles to qualify for the World Cup; I can't do both."

The former Ajax and Real Betis winger stressed the magnitude of taking charge of Nigeria's national team, with over 200 million citizens' expectations to meet.

"This is a difficult job, and running Enyimba is also very difficult. We are talking about the entire country, Nigeria's team, with over 200 million watching," he added.

"So it's wise that I follow the Super Eagles, which is a bigger challenge with a bigger commitment, which makes it a bigger job."

Finidi revealed he had already discussed the situation with the Enyimba hierarchy, who understood his position, clearing the way for him to focus solely on his new role with the three-time African champions.
