Spain international Aymeric Laporte has revealed that opponents are afraid to face Barcelona's teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal.
At just 18 years old, Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal has become one of the most electrifying forwards in world football.
His ability to glide past defenders and score spectacular goals has solidified him as a household name in football.
Laporte hails scary Yamal, compares him to Messi
Speaking to RMC Sport, former Manchester City defender Laporte explained the unique challenge Yamal presents to opponents.
"With the ball at his feet, it’s something extraordinary," he said. "There is no left-back in the world who can say, 'Come on, dribble past me, let’s see if you can.'
"Everyone is afraid; everyone defends by backing down, and that is the effect he has."
The defender likened the experience to facing the Argentine great in his prime.
"It’s a bit like what they thought of Messi when he was one-on-one: let’s see where he is going to go, what he is going to do, if he is going to cut inside, accelerate, stop, or shoot from distance," Laporte added.
Yamal's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. He made his competitive debut for Barcelona at the tender age of 15, and while his potential was clear, few could have predicted his rapid ascent.
Since then, he has taken the global stage by storm. After signing a lucrative contract on his 18th birthday, he inherited the iconic No. 10 shirt at Camp Nou, a number famously worn by Messi. Yamal has embraced the pressure, delivering consistently outstanding performances.
After scoring 18 goals across all competitions last season, he has already netted 15 this term, along with 12 assists in 31 appearances, frequently serving as Barcelona's main source of inspiration.
With La Liga and European Championship titles already to his name, Yamal is building an impressive trophy cabinet. He was the runner-up in the 2025 Ballon d'Or vote and is widely tipped to win the prestigious award multiple times in his career, much like the record-setting Messi.
