Manchester City came from a goal to defeat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park thanks to goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva.

Manchester City returned to Premier League action with a 3-1 win against Everton away at Goodison Park to resurrect their title defence after a recent run of bad results.

The Cityzens missed the last round of Premier League games because they were busy winning the FIFA Club World Cup but made a statement in their first game back, coming from behind to win away at Everton.

Everton took a shock lead against the run of play shortly before the half-hour mark when Dwight McNeil capitalised on a poor touch from Rodri to tee up Jack Harrison for a simple finish inside the six-yard box.

City mounted pressure for the rest of the first half to no avail but their endeavour was rewarded with an equaliser in the 53rd minute, as Foden caught Pickford out at his near post with a powerful 25-yard drive.

Foden would once again come close to scoring but City took the lead from the penalty spot with Julian Alvarez converting after Nathan Ake's goalbound effort had struck the arm of Amadou Onana.

Bernardo Silva punished a wayward pass from Pickford with a well-taken lob to round off the scoring while also earning City just their second PL win in seven matches in the process.

The result moves Manchester City up to fourth in the Premier League, just five points off the top of the league with a game in hand.
