The Lionesses could have their key midfielder fit in time for the round of 16 clash against Nigeria

England have received a huge boost ahead of their World Cup Round of 16 match against Nigeria as midfielder Keira Walsh resumed training ahead of the clash.

England get Walsh boost

Walsh suffered a knee injury during the Lionesses group stage victory over Denmark and missed their final group match against China.

England had feared that the Barcelona midfielder would be ruled out for the rest of the World Cup amidst suspicions of an ACL injury, however, they will be relieved that this is not the case as Walsh has already started training again.

The 26-year-old was pictured training alone in England’s preparatory sessions for the game against Nigeria, sparking hopes that she will be available to face the Super Falcons.

England and Nigeria headed for crucial knockout clash

England were able to beat China 6-1 in the final game of the group stages without Walsh thanks to an incredible performance from forward Lauren James, who was involved in four of the goals but will be hoping for the Barcelona midfielder’s return if they progress in the tournament.

The Lionesses will play Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Monday, August 7th, in the third meeting between both sides.

Nigeria have won two of three games against England, with the Lionesses claiming a win in the third fixture.

England will still be confident of victory since they have won the only competitive fixture between the two and are currently ranked fourth in the world compared to Nigeria’s 40th.
