Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has caused a stir by suggesting he could continue taking star striker Kylian Mbappe off early in matches, following his decision to substitute the Frenchman at half-time during their recent 0-0 draw with Monaco.

Mbappe informed PSG of his plans to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer, with Real Madrid heavily linked to the 25-year-old

Reports suggest that the French Champions are looking to convince the forward to sign another contract, but he has insisted on leaving, which has left a bitter taste for the club.

Mbappe's playing time diminishes

The news of Mbappe's departure came just a day after he netted in the first leg against Sociedad, helping his side win 2-0. However, his playing time has since been significantly reduced, with Mbappe featuring as a second-half substitute against Nantes before being taken off early against both Rennes and Monaco.

"Could be yes, could be not, who knows..." Enrique responded when asked in his press conference if he could make a similar call against Real Sociedad in the upcoming Champions League clash.

"Sooner or later, we will have to get used to playing without Kylian," said Enrique following the Monaco game. "It's a decision that I made with the aim of doing the best for the team."

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Mbappe's future, PSG head into the second leg against Real Sociedad with a comfortable 2-goal advantage, thanks to goals from Mbappe and Bradley Barcola in the first leg.

"What I expect of the team is for them to be ready for the importance of the match," Enrique added. "And hopefully, we will be able to face this match like the rest of matches we have played during the season.  I am very confident in my team. I think we are clear with our target and that's to beat Real Sociedad, to defeat them at their home but it won't be easy."
