Chelsea are set to appoint former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino as they enter into the final stage of negotiations.

Both Chelsea and Pochettino are pleased with the way that negotiations have developed over the past week and are looking for a speedy agreement about the terms of his appointment.

Pochettino's backroom team, who have worked with him at Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain throughout his coaching career, are expected to join him at Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino career

Mauricio Pochettino started his managerial career at Espanyol before moving to Southampton in January 2013. The Argentine led the team to an eighth-placed finish, which was their highest league position since 2002–03.

In May 2014, the 51-year-old was appointed head coach of Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year contract. He took Tottenham to the League Cup final in 2014 and their first Champions League final in 2019.

A few months later, after their Champions League final in 2019, Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur after having a poor performance which left them 14th on the Premier League table.

Pochettino was later appointed by PSG in 2021 on an 18-month contract. He won the Coupe De France and the Ligue 1 title during his tenure at PSG. He then parted ways with Paris Saint-Germain in July 2022.
