Tanzania Football Federation boss Wallace Karia has said that the 2024 CHAN tournament will be staged jointly by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and not one country as previously stated

The 2024 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) will be played in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zanzibar not the former alone as previously stated.

This was revealed by Tanzania Football Federation president Wallace Karia who said just like the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations which Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will co-host, next year’s tournament will also be held jointly.

“Next year in September, we have been given the CHAN hosting rights in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, meaning in our zone, there will be only one team remaining,” said Karia.

“Hopefully, we will have one stadium in Kampala, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. All the four CECAFA teams we will ask CAF to put them in different groups so that we do not compete against each other.”

Kenya announced in October that it had secured the hosting rights for the 2024 CHAN tournament following a cabinet meeting chaired by President William Ruto in Kisumu.

"In addition to AFCON 2027, Kenya has also been selected to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in September 2024; the CECAFA Under-18 Championship in November 2023, and the AFCON Under-15 (Pan-African Schools Football) CECAFA Region Championship in December 2023," the Cabinet statement declared.

However, there has been no official communication from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirming Kenya's hosting rights for the 2024 CHAN until Karia’s sentiments.

Kenya's previous experience in hosting football events had been a mixed one. While the nation was initially awarded the hosting rights for the 2018 CHAN, unpreparedness ultimately led to them losing the opportunity.

Now, with another chance on the horizon, Kenya is determined to make amends and prove its capability with Kasarani Stadium being closed this week for major renovations.
