Kenyan striker Teopista Situma grabbed the brace that left the Kampala Queens in a complicated position after two matches.

Buja Queens from Burundi left Kampala Queens' supporters disappointed on Tuesday when they stormed the FUFA Technical team to pick a 2-1 result for their first win of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifier.

Kenyan striker Teopista Situma grabbed the brace that left the hosts in a precarious position after two matches.

Their head coach Feruzi Haruna blamed fatigue for their opening 2-1 loss to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia despite scoring first.

They regrouped, took their rest and added in five players who arrived with the second batch to be able to pull that result.

“The first game was very tough because we had travelled a long distance and several players failed to handle the second half where we lost the game,” Haruna said after the win.

The coach also revealed that their effort to scout Kampala Queens against Yei Joints Stars paid off.

On the day, the Burundians froze out Fazila Ikwaput for a better time of the day, cutting out her supply and outmuscling the striker who scored a hattrick on the opening day.

“So,” the coach added, “we rested, then went back and watched how Kampala played and devised a strategy that eventually paid off. We also received a boost from several key players who arrived late to play a part in the opening game.”

Among the players who boosted the team include the Kenyan duo of Corazone Vivian Aquino and bulky defender Ruth Ingosi, captain Aisha Djafari and Esperance Habonimana.

The win took Buja Queens level on three points with the Ugandans, who have a better goal difference as Commercial Bank of Ethiopia move top with six.
