Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Nigeria striker Victor Boniface is ready to return to action.

Boniface, 23, has faced a period of sidelined frustration after undergoing surgery for an adductor injury back in January.

Leverkusen have soldiered on in his absence, extending their unbeaten streak to 39 games across all competitions.

The Nigerian goal-machine has worked his way back to full fitness in recent weeks and will provide a timely boost for manager Xabi Alonso ahead of crucial fixtures on the domestic front, and in the UEFA Europa League.

Ahead of Leverkusen's DFB Pokal semi-final clash against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Wednesday, Alonso revealed Boniface is set to play.

“We have no injured players. Everyone could be available for the squad,” Alonso told a press conference.

“Boniface could play a part of the game. He trained hard and came through it with a strong mentality. He can’t wait to be back on the pitch.”

Boniface has scored 16 goals in 23 appearances for the Bundesliga leaders this season.
