Chelsea suffers injury crisis as Maresca confirms Palmer, Caicedo, Fernández, and Neto doubts for Forest clash

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the Blues are facing a deepening injury crisis ahead of their Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest this weekend, with several key players expected to miss out.

Cole Palmer out for six weeks

Star playmaker Cole Palmer, whose creativity has been central to Chelsea’s resurgence under Maresca, will be sidelined for another six weeks, the Italian confirmed during Friday’s press conference.

Palmer’s absence had already made headlines, but Maresca’s latest update suggests the situation is far more concerning, with Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, and Pedro Neto all potential absentees for Saturday’s clash.

“And then we have Moi [Caicedo], Enzo [Fernández], Pedro [Neto],” Maresca said.

He added, “They didn’t take part in the session yesterday, and we’ll see if they can train today. Otherwise, they’re going to be out.”

More injury setbacks for the Blues

The manager also confirmed that Benoît Badiashile is out until December with a muscular problem, but offered some hope with the return of Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Andrey Santos, who could be vital in midfield amid the mounting absences.

“Enzo is out, Moi is out, Pedro is out. It’s a little bit of a balance, but again, we’re going to try our best to find the right solution for the next games,” Maresca sighed.

Fernández has been nursing a knee inflammation that forced him to withdraw from Argentina’s camp, while Neto was substituted after an hour in Portugal’s World Cup qualifier against Hungary due to injury.

Caicedo, meanwhile, skipped Ecuador’s recent friendlies to focus on club recovery, but his fitness concerns persist.

Under former boss Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea were once accused of being “Cole Palmer FC” after struggling without their talisman. That narrative shifted under Maresca, whose system has gradually reduced reliance on the 22-year-old England international.

Despite Palmer’s absence, Chelsea have won five of the six matches he has missed this season, including a 2–1 victory over Liverpool, where Caicedo opened the scoring in a standout performance.
