Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski inched closer to breaking one of Cristiano Ronaldo's UCL records.

Robert Lewandowski’s goal against Copenhagen took his extraordinary post-age-30 tally in the Champions League to 62 goals in 68 matches, closing the gap on Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time record of 68 Champions League goals scored after turning 30.

Lewandowski turned 30 on 21 August 2018, and since then has maintained an elite scoring output across spells with Bayern Munich and Barcelona, producing one of the most sustained late-career peaks in Champions League history.

His overall Champions League record now stands at 107 goals, placing him third on the all-time scoring list, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo (140) and Lionel Messi (129), with the Polish striker also ranking second all-time in goals per game ratio among players with 50+ goals in the competition.

How he compares to Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the benchmark in this competition; however, having scored 68 Champions League goals after turning 30, a record built across spells with Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United and underpinned by his total of five Champions League titles and seven Champions League Golden Boots.

Lewandowski, who won the competition once with Bayern Munich in 2019/20, now sits just six goals behind Ronaldo’s post-30 mark and 46 goals off Ronaldo’s overall Champions League total. This gap tells the story of both Ronaldo’s historic longevity and the scale of Lewandowski’s late-career surge.

Lewandowski might need to score six goals for Barcelona in the knockout stage of this season’s competition, as reports suggest Barcelona do not intend to renew his contract when it expires at the end of the season. Given his advanced age, the 37-year-old might need to leave European football to continue his career, which effectively puts him out of the race for the record.
