The move comes following Bandari's FKF Cup exit at the hands of Kimani's former employers, AFC Leopards.

Bandari FC have sacked head coach Anthony Modo Kimani following the side's FKF Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of AFC Leopards on Sunday.

Bandari conceded three goals in the opening 25 minutes of the match, leaving them in an impossible situation to try and get back into the game.

The 2019 FKF Cup champions announced the sacking of Modo following a close door meeting with the board as the experienced Twahir Muhiddin takes charge on interim basis.

“Bandari FC wishes to announce that we have parted ways with our Head Coach, Anthony Kimani, on mutual consent. The Board of Trustees arrived at this decision after thorough deliberations.

We would like to sincerely thank Anthony Kimani for his service and dedication to the club during his tenure as our Head Coach. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Meanwhile, the club's Technical Director Sheikh Twahir Muhiddin will take charge for the remainder of the season.

We also want to assure our fans and stakeholders that the club remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving our goals and aspirations as a club. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to a successful future together,” read the club statement.

Kimani first took charge when he replaced Rwandan Andre Casa Mbungo in February 2022 in an acting capacity.

He helped the Mombasa-based club to register a fourth-place finish behind winners Tusker FC, Kakamega Homeboyz, and record champions Gor Mahia.

Modo has previously played for a number of Kenyan clubs including Mathare United and AFC Leopards.

He played for and captained Mathare to their maiden Premier League title in 2008 before moving to AFC Leopards. Kimani coached the latter in 2021 before resigning to look for new challenges.

He earned his first national team call up in 2008 while at Mathare and went on to feature for Harambee Stars until 2013.

Bandari harbored ambitions of winning the title at the beginning of the season, but are currently in sixth place in the league on 19 points behind leaders Gor Mahia after 26 games.

The FKF Cup was a good opportunity for the side to make amends for the underwhelming league season, but their exit left the board with no choice but to sack him.
