Xabi Alonso has hailed Leverkusen's patience and clarity of purpose after Nathan Tella inspired them to win against Wolfsburg.
Unsurprisingly, this has sparked transfer rumors linking him with a return to former clubs Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich after Klopp announced in January that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine years at the Reds.
However, 63-year-old Matthäus suggests Alonso might be better served staying put and continuing his impressive work at Leverkusen.
In an interview with AFP, Matthäus added that Klopp presents a unique challenge that he has built a legacy of success at Liverpool, and any incoming manager will need to find their own way to build on that.
