Defender William Saliba believes Arsenal can challenge for all major silverware next season with manager Mikel Arteta a main reason

Arsenal defender William Saliba, who recently signed an extension on his contract until 2027, has praised manager Mikel Arteta and made a bold declaration about the team’s chances under the Spanish boss.

Saliba reminisces about Arsenal’s failed title challenge

Saliba played a key role in Arsenal’s title charge during the 2022/23 season, but was unavailable for the Gunners’ title run-in as they ultimately surrendered the title to Machester City.

Saliba’s absence was noted as one of the causes of Arsenal’s end-of-season collapse after the centre-back missed the last 11 Premier League games of the campaign following an injury suffered against Sporting CP in the UEFA Europa League.

Without the French defender, Arsenal’s win percentage dropped to 45.45% from 77.8% in the first 27 games of the season when he was available.

Saliba believes Arsenal can win silverware under Arteta

Despite the disappointment of ending the season without a trophy after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title, Saliba has noted that the Gunners will be back to challenge for titles in the 2023/24 season especially under the guidance of gaffer, Arteta.

Speaking to Metro UK after signing his contract extension, Saliba said, “I think we can achieve everything.

“Of course, it’s easy to say this, but we have the coach, we have the character, we have the players, and every year the team gets stronger. We have better players with a good mentality.”

Saliba and Arsenal have been tipped to pick up from where they left off in the 2022/23 season and challenge for the Premier League title again next season, and with Arteta at the helm and a number of key signings, many at the club believe that they can take another step closer to silverware this time around.
