Apology is not 3 points: Klopp says PGMOL statement after VAR error helps no one

Jürgen Klopp was furious after PGMOL's apologies for their VAR fiasco during Liverpool's 2-1 loss at Tottenham.

In the 27th minute, after reviewing Curtis Jones' challenge and controversially switching his verdict from a yellow to a straight red card, Klopp's Reds were reduced to ten men.

Despite being a man down, Liverpool still went on to score the first goal in the first half which was wrongly chalked off.

PGMOL have tendered an apology to Liverpool for the human error made during the game but Klopp isn't pleased with the statement released.

Klopp fumes at PGMOL statement

Diaz's goal was ruled out for offside by the on-field referee Hooper but Official for VAR Darren England had incorrectly believed that the goal would not be allowed after that on-field ruling.

While the score was equal at 1-1, Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota received two yellow cards in rapid succession that could both be considered harsh.

According to the Daily Star report, England said to Hooper "Check complete" even though it was obvious Diaz was onside, thinking he was awarding the Colombian striker his goal.

PGMOL admitted their mistakes and blamed "major human error" but Klopp had little time for it as his team missed out on critical points despite being tied until Joel Matip's own goal in the 96th minute.

Klopp fumed after the game, “When we saw it, we thought ‘that’s not offside’. They drew the lines wrong.”

In response to yet another Premier League VAR apology, the 56-year-old expressed his frustration, saying, “Who does that help? We had that situation in the Man Utd game. Did Wolves get the points for it? We won’t get the points for it.

“We all thought that when VAR came in it would make things easier. I never saw a game like this with the most unfair circumstances, crazy decisions.”
