The games are part of the qualifiers that were held on Sunday as nations jostle for places in the next edition.

Uganda’s dream of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations hangs in the balance following a 2-1 defeat to Algeria.

Uganda hosted the North Africans at Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon, and suffered a loss that saw them remain in third place in Group F. This was Algeria’s fifth consecutive win in the group.

Mohamed Lamine Amoura, who was lively throughout the match, scored a brace to hand the 2019 AFCON winners the victory, while Fahad Bayo scored the only goal for the Cranes.

Amoura scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute before registering the second one in the 66th minute.

Bayo found the back of the net to deny Algeria a clean sheet in the 88th minute. The East Africans created chances, but Algerian goalkeeper Anthony Mandrea denied them on numerous occasions.

Elsewhere, Togo registered a 2-0 victory over Eswatini and moved third in Group B. The loss put Eswatini’s dream of securing a place in the next finals in jeopardy.

The West Africans took home the crucial points as they kept fighting to see whether they could clinch the title in the end.

Finally, DR Congo’s hopes of qualifying for the Ivory Coast’s finals received a boost following their 2-0 victory over Gabon.

The win on Sunday in Franceville was DR Congo’s first-ever victory in Gabon, but there is still everything to fight for in the group that remains open.
