Former Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has praised the Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold following his performance in the Premier League against Leeds.

Due to his excellent play and manager Jürgen Klopp's decision to give him a more attacking role, the full-back assisted twice against Leeds.

Liverpool put six goals past Leeds on Monday night with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah scoring two goals each and Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez scoring a goal each but it was Trent’s performance in an attacking role that caught the eyes of the pundit.

Alan Shearer picks Trent Alexander-Arnold in his team of the week

The Liverpool player was chosen by Shearer for the team of the week after contributing two assists during the match. He chose Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold for this squad based on his performance against Leeds.

Writing for the Premier League, Shearer said, “He looks back to his best after getting a more central and creative role, setting up two of Liverpool’s six goals.”

The 24-year-old managed 12 assists in the Premier League last year. He's only on five right now. If he continues to produce performances like the one against Leeds, then there is no doubt that he could match this tally.

Klopp hoping Trent continues his form

Trent has been a key figure in Klopp’s team, and the manager will be hoping he can continue this form. With the club currently struggling to qualify for European football, they will need to win their remaining games to have any chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Due to their extreme inconsistency this season it will be a very difficult challenge for them. In the upcoming matches against Nottingham Forest, West Ham, and Tottenham, Alexander-Arnold will undoubtedly have the chance to score some more goals.
