Ladan Bosso's youngsters showed tremendous character to twice come back against their opponents in Ghana but were ultimately undone by a late penalty that sealed their fate.

Flying Eagles surrender to Senegal

Charles Adah Agada had given Nigeria a dream start by firing them ahead early on, only for Idrissa Gueye's quick-fire brace to turn the game on its head before half-time.

When Favour Izuogu, the 18-year-old Enyimba starlet, levelled things up after the break, it looked like the Flying Eagles may battle their way to an important point.

But there was late, late drama as Papa Mamadou Diouf stepped up to convert a decisive 66th-minute spot-kick that ended Nigeria's African Games campaign.

Bosso Blames Lack of time for Flying Eagles' early exit at African Games

Bosso, has attributed his team's disappointing exit from the African Games to a lack of adequate preparation time.

Bosso admitted to facing challenges in scouting players due to the short timeframe. "I didn't have enough time to scout for players," he confessed. "What I did was to watch a few games in Uyo and other places." This limited scouting process likely impacted his ability to assemble the strongest possible squad.

Following the team's elimination from the group stage, Bosso emphasized the importance of proper preparation. "The lesson is that we need to prepare very well for future tournaments," he asserted.

He highlighted the drawbacks of a rushed preparation period, stating, "The idea of preparing for a tournament in 13 days is really not the best."

Despite the disappointing outcome, Bosso identified some positive takeaways. "We can take positives from the fact that some players in this squad can be nurtured for the future and possibly play for the national team," he said.

Despite holding the position of coach for Nigeria's U-20 team for 17 years since 2007, Ladan Bosso's tenure hasn't yielded any major trophies.
