In a remarkable expression of respect and admiration for a legendary figure in Nigerian football, Kelechi Iheanacho, the Leicester City forward, implored Jay-Jay Okocha to regularly visit the Super Eagles before their crucial games.

The Super Eagles recorded their first victory at the 2023 AFCON after beating Ivory Coast 1-0 courtesy of a William Troost-Ekong penalty.

Legendary Super Eagles midfielder Jay Jay Okocha visited the team alongside NFF president Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Iheancaho requests Okocha’s presence before games

This request came after Nigeria's notable 1-0 victory over Cote d'Ivoire at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Okocha's presence in the dressing room and his time spent with the Eagles before their match against Cote d'Ivoire were seen as instrumental in motivating and encouraging the team.

A video of Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho asking the Nigerian legend JJ Okocha to always come around before they play any game circulated on social media.

This interaction highlights the immense influence and inspiration that former players like Okocha can have on current national teams, underscoring the continuity and rich heritage of Nigerian football.

The Super Eagles, having broken their disappointing run with this victory, look forward to their next challenges with renewed vigour and the support of their esteemed predecessors.

The Super Eagles are on four points and second in their group ahead of the last game against Guinea-Bissau. A point will be enough to secure a top two spot for Nigeria in the group and a place in the knockout stage.
