Nigerian teacher given guard of honor by South African students after the Super Eagles beat Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalties in the AFCON semis.

A Nigerian teacher was given a guard of honor by his South African students after the Super Eagles beat Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalties of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Semi Finals to book a slot with Ivory Coast in the final.

The game in Bouake finished 1-1 following a remarkable end to normal time which involved the referee going to his video monitor to disallow a Victor Osimhen strike which would have put Nigeria 2-0 up.

Teboho Mokoena converted from the spot in the 90th minute to send the game into a goalless period of extra time where Bafana Bafana defender Grant Kekana was sent off late on.

Mokoena could not repeat the trick in the shootout and while Ola Aina blasted his penalty over the bar, Evidence Makgopa’s miss handed the advantage back to the Super Eagles. Iheanacho had the chance to win it, and did just that to set up a final against either Ivory Coast or DR Congo.

The heartwarming video, posted on social media by @iamOkon, captured an unnamed school teacher adorned in the vibrant green of Nigeria's jersey, sporting joggers and matching shoes. With an air of grace, he strolled amidst a chorus of applause from his students, who showered him with admiration.

This comes after Nigerian citizens in South Africa expressed fears of xenophobic attacks should the Super Eagles defeat their host’s team.
