The England captain has been a long-time transfer target for the Red Devils.

Manchester United have been handed a lifeline in their pursuit of Harry Kane.

This is after reports indicate Tottenham’s owner told Daniel Levy, the club's chairman, to sell the striker. United's manager Erik ten Hag had identified Kane as his top transfer target for the summer, but in recent weeks, the English star has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga giants had their initial bids turned down by Spurs and are said to be preparing a fourth one, although Tottenham are still hopeful that the player will sign a new contract with his current deal expiring next year.

Ten Hag is keen to sign a center-forward after the experiment with Wout Weghorst failed. The Dutchman, on loan from Burnley last season, failed to score a single Premier League goal.

Meanwhile, Spurs' chair was unwilling to sell the club's top scorer, and should Kane force a move, Levy would prefer that he join a team outside the Premier League. Kane is valued at over £100 million by the North London club.

After Kane's pursuit looked like it was not going to happen, the Red Devils focused their attention on Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund, but while personal terms have been agreed, the two clubs remain far apart on a fee.

The Telegraph reports that Spurs’ majority owner Joe Lewis is said to have informed Levy that he is unprepared to let Kane run down his contract and become a free agent. If Kane cannot be convinced to sign a new contract, he should be sold this summer in order for the club to get some money from the sale.
